Our Safeguarding Commitment
Every person possesses an inherent dignity that must be respected and protected. Safeguarding is therefore not merely an administrative obligation for Restore God’s Kingdom: it is a practical expression of our Christian duty of care.
We are committed to creating an organisational culture in which children and adults at risk are protected from abuse, exploitation, harassment, neglect and avoidable harm. Our Christian ethos strengthens—but never replaces—our legal, regulatory and professional safeguarding responsibilities.
This commitment applies to Restore God’s Kingdom’s charity trustees, employees, volunteers, contractors, consultants, representatives and partner organisations, as well as to every project or activity funded or facilitated in Restore God’s Kingdom’s name.
How We Put Safeguarding into Practice
Our safeguarding framework includes:
1. Risk assessment before activities and partnerships are approved
2. Safer recruitment, references and vetting where legally required
3. Clear standards of behaviour for trustees, staff, volunteers and representatives
4. Safeguarding due diligence and contractual obligations for funded partners
5. Appropriate supervision and boundaries when interacting with children or adults at risk
6. Informed consent and dignity-based standards for photographs, testimony and personal stories
7. Confidential and accessible channels for reporting concerns
8. Prompt risk assessment, protective action and referral to statutory authorities where appropriate
9. Safeguarding training proportionate to each person’s role
10. Board oversight, documented review and organisational learning
Working Through International Partners
RGK frequently supports projects through dioceses, parishes, priests, religious communities and other local organisations. Distance does not lessen our responsibility.
Partners should be required to maintain safeguarding arrangements appropriate to their activities and local legal context, identify a safeguarding contact, report serious concerns involving Restore God’s Kingdom-funded activities promptly and cooperate with any legitimate safeguarding review.
International best practice also requires organisations to consider harm caused through their staff, programmes, communications and partners—not only direct contact with children. The Keeping Children Safe standards organise this around four areas: policy, people, procedures and accountability. International Child Safeguarding Standards.
Reporting a Safeguarding Concern
Anyone may raise a concern about conduct connected with Restore God’s Kingdom. A person does not need proof before reporting a genuine concern.
Reports will be handled on a restricted, need-to-know basis. Confidentiality will be respected as far as possible, but absolute confidentiality cannot be promised where disclosure is required to protect someone or comply with the law.
For an immediate danger in Ireland, call 112 or 999. Concerns about a child may also be reported directly to Tusla or An Garda Síochána. Concerns involving an adult at risk may be reported to An Garda Síochána or the appropriate HSE safeguarding service.
